Treatment with Treatlite Active Low-level laser therapy
Treatment with therapy laser affects the local immune defense, the circulation in blood and lymphatic vessels, metabolism in the cells and the secretion of different substances that among others influence pain.

Laser treatment starts the healing process and stimulates the body to heal itself. There are no known side effects.

Treatlite Active has a wavelength optimal for healing and pain relief (808 nM). The laser beam penetrates to a depth of 3 cm, depending of the kind of tissue, and spreads the beam to a sphere of action on an area of 3 cm. Always hold the Treatlite Active close to the skin. For safety reasons the nozzle spreads the beam when it is withdrawn from the skin.

The treatment is carried out incorporating pain spots and trigger spots. A pain spot is mostly a point with bursting pain. A trigger spot is often a point in a nearby muscle that is painful when pushing on it. Examine with your fingers around the pain spots to find trigger spots.

The possibilities of relief are dramatically improved by starting the laser treatment as soon as possible after the Injury.

There are two natural treatment areas in the neck area
1) Between the base of the skull and upper neck ( Articulatio atlanto-occipitale) i.e. upper cervical vertebra.
2) The area where the neck meets the chest. There are many ligament attachments here that can be affected after an accident.

Search with your fingers for pain spots and trigger spots around the two treatment areas. Put the laser on the pain spots and trigger spots with a light touch.

Treat the pain spots with 2 dosage of the laser at each spot daily during 3 days. After that, twice a week for at least 6 weeks.

Put the laser on the trigger spot with a firm hand.

Treat the trigger spot with 2 dosages of the laser on each trigger spot daily during 3 days. After that, twice a week for at least 6 weeks.

Shoulder pain
Joints and ligaments are swollen and aching. Search for the pain spots (sore points) with your finger.

Treat the pain spots with 1 dosage of the laser on each pain spot twice a day for 1 week. After that, 2-3 times a week for 3 weeks.

Sharp back pain (Lumbago)
Start the treatment preferably within 12 hours.

Treat with 3 dosages at every 3 cm along both sides of the spine, totally 8-10 points.

Continue daily for 3 days, after then twice a week until the wound is healed.

Chronic back pain (Lumbago)
The same as above, twice a week for at least 6 weeks.

Laser treatment does not cure arthritis. Swelling and pain can, however, be treated. Search for the pain spots (sore points) with your finger.

Treat with 2 dosages on each pain spot plus some dosages at the swollen tissue daily for 3 days. After that, twice a week. If you experience sharp pain, repeat the treatment daily. If you experience finger arthritis, give 1 dosage at all joints on upper side as well as the lower side.

Sprained ankle
Ligament injury, pain and swelling. Start the treatment as soon as possible. Press the blood from the tissue by pressing the laser to the skin.

Treat with 2 dosages every 3 cm along the injured area. Repeat the treatment twice a day for 2 days. After that once a day until the injury is healed.

Golf- and Tennis elbow  (Epikondylit)
Ligaments and tissue are inflamed and aching. Search for the pain spots (sore points) with your finger.

Treat the pain spots with 2 dosages of the laser at each spot twice a day during 3 days. After that, twice a week for until the wound is healed.

At the attachment of the ligament (the bone knob) give just one dosage. The pain may increase in the beginning of the treatment, which is normal in the healing process. Avoid overloading the injury during a week after the pain has vanished.

Sports injuries
Investigate that nothing is broken. Swelling and pain can be treated. Start the treatment as soon as possible after the injury occurred.

Treat with 2 or 4 dosages depending on the thickness of the tissue in the wounded area. Continue every 3 cm along the injured area. Treat twice the first day and then once daily until the injury is healed. The pain will vanish before the injury is healed.

Acne, Herpes, Shingles
When a herpes sore on the lips is just to occur it feels pulsating and irritating.

Treat immediate with 2 dosages at the pulsing point. Very likely the continued development of the sore will stop. If the sore on the lip already has begun, treat with 2 dosages around the sore 1-2 times a day until the sore is healed. Don´t treat directly on the sore.

Acne inflammations are best treated with 3 dosages daily around each wound.

Shingles is a condition caused by the herpes virus. Treat with 1 dosage daily every 3rd  cm along  the range of the spinal nerve for one week. Then 2-3 times a week.

Jaw-joint TMJ (Temporomandibular dysfunction)
Temporomandibular dysfunction or TMD is a collective name for problems occurring in the jaw-joint or muscles connected to the function of the jaw-joint. The symptoms are generally reduced ability to open the mouth, pain by chewing and opening the mouth and sense of fatigue by chewing from the jaw muscles. Noise in form of flick sound or scraping from the jaw. Hooking and locking of the jaw-joint is common. Put the laser outside along the troubling jaw.

Treat with 2 dosages every 3 cm from the jaw-joint and downwards twice a day during 3 days. Then once a day until the trouble disappears. If the problem does not disappear, contact your dentist.

Afte is an inflammation in the mouth that happens when the immune defense by mistake attacks the tissue of the mucous membrane. At Afte you get clearly-defined yellow-white sores at the inside of the cheek or on the edges of the tongue.

Place the laser on the outside of the cheek (where the sore is on the inside).

Treat with 2 dosages twice a day for 3 days and then once a day until the wound is healed.

Mouth dryness
Pain in the mouth may depend on that the mucous membrane is dry caused by low salivary secretion. As it could depend on Sjogren's syndrome, an inflammatory autoimmune disorder, a physician or dentist should investigate the cause. Saliva glands are located beneath the ear under the cheek bone.

Place the laser on two different spots on each side of the cheek.

Treat with 2 dosages on each spot twice a day for 3 days, then once a day.

Wounds and inflammations in the mucous membrane (Oral muscosit)
Oral muscosit is an injury and inflammation of epithelium and the closest tissue in mouth and throat. Laser therapy treatment can stimulate the growth of cells in the mucous membrane. It can be used together with radiation treatment as well as chemotherapy and eventually combined with Aloe Vera or Glutamine treatment. With problems with the lower jaw place the laser beneath the chin. With problems with the upper jaw place the Treatlite laser around the upper jaw.

Put the laser outside along the troubling jaw.

Treat with 2 dosages every 3 cm from the jaw-joint and downwards twice a day during 3 days. Then once a day until the trouble disappears. If the problem does not disappear, contact a physician or dentist.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Pain, prickling and numbness in the fingers, especially at night. If the trouble mostly is concentrated to the thumb, forefinger and eventually the ring finger it could be carpal tunnel syndrome. The trouble occurs sometime through wrong handling of a computer mouse. It can, however, also be a sign of other illness such as reduced hormone production from the thyroid gland. A physician should make the diagnosis.
Laser treatment reduces the inflammation in the tissues where the medianus nerve pass and is aimed at improving the space in the carpal tunnel and thus reducing the pressure on the nerve.

Treat with 2 dosages on the outside as well as the inside of the wrist twice a day for 3 days, then once a day until the symptom disappears. Best results are achieved in early stages. In a later stage surgery might be necessary.

Fibrositis (Myofascial syndrome)
Myofasciellt syndrome has many similarities with fibrositis, which is a better known concept.

Myofasciellt syndrome characterizes through pain in muscles and muscular attachments with sore spots that send out pain by touching, called trigger spots.

Treat the trigger spots with 2 dosages twice a day for 3 days, then twice a day until the pain is reduced. When the pain returns, repeat the treatment.

Laser treatment can’t do harm. Too much use can, however, reduce the effect of the treatment.

Lymph Edema
Lymph edema means that a part of the body is swollen when lymph fluid is piled up. Most common is to get lymph edema in an arm or a leg. Lymph edema may occur when lymph glands have been removed or been damaged connection with cancer treatment.

Lymph edema can also be inherited. There is no cure for lymph edema.

The most common treatment for lymph edema is compression. This means that the tissues around the edema are pressed together with help of compression stockings. This often combined with a special type of massage. Physical activities and training such as weight training and pole walking improves the arm. Laser treatment of edemas and the lymph system will reduce the symptoms.

Start with the lymph drainage on the neck.

Treat with 2 dosages on each side twice a day for 3 days, then once a day until the problems reduce.

Treat the swelling of the edema with 1 dosage every 3 cm of the edema. Treat the surrounding lymph glands with 2 dosages. By lymph edema in the arm treat also the glands in the armpit and by lymph edema in the leg, also treat the gland in the groin.

Wound healing
One type of wound is caused by diabetes. The cause is reduced circulation in feet and legs.

Slow-healing wounds and loss feeling may occur. Laser treatment is one of the few possible treatments.

When experiencing loss of feeling, the area on the foot or leg should be treated with 1-2 dosages a day until the sensation is better. When experiencing wounds, the healthy tissue around the sore shall be treated with 1 dosage every 3 cm.

Give 2 treatments a day during 3 days. Then give 1 treatment a day for one week. Repeat the procedure with 2 dosages a week and so forth until the wound is healed. Never give the treatment in an open sore. It is the healthy tissue treatment that will activate the healing process.

Other types of wounds can be treated in the same way as diabetes sores.

Achilles tendon
Achilles tendon is mostly related to overstrain which brings about pain, swelling and tenderness in connection with the ligament. Overstraining injury occur mainly in exercise and sports activities containing much jumping and running. Swelling and pain can be treated.

Start the treatment as soon as possible after an injury occurred.

Then give 1 dosage every 3 cm along the injured area twice the first day.

Then treat once a day until the injury is healed. Notice that the pain will disappear before the injury is healed.

The cause of sinusitis is that one or more of the air filled cavities called sinuses, in the face and leading to the nasal cavity, get inflamed. Normally air, fluid and phlegm can pass freely to and from the sinuses, but after for instance a cold the passage will be blocked because of the mucous membrane in the nose swell. This makes phlegm and bacteria stick in the sinuses and starts an inflammation. Another reason could be a non-treated tooth infection which leads to sinusitis in the upper sinus.

Pain and inflammation can be treated with laser. Push the Treatlite laser against the wing of the nose or the frontal lobe where the pain is found.

Treat with 3-4 dosages per spot daily for 3 days. Continue every second day until the pain fades away. A common treatment time is one week.

Insect-bite, Stinging nettle, Stinging jellyfish
The skin gets red spots on the attacked area and it is itching. This is a kind of inflammation.

Treat with 1-2 dosages as soon as possible. The pain and itchiness disappears in most cases after a few minutes. Continue the treatment twice a day until the condition is alleviated.

If you have been bitten by a tick and got a big red ring on the skin, you might have been infected by Borrelia. Seek medical attention for diagnosis and treatment. When you have verified Lyme disease (Borrelia) laser treatment combined with prescribed drugs is recommended.

Laser treatment works as an anti-inflammatory, painkiller and stimulates the wound healing.

Treat with 1 dosage every second cm around the red ring daily until it vanishes.

Treatment advice for Treatlite Dental 150 mW with mounted dental probe
Calculating the dosage is easy with Active Dental Laser. The power at the tip of the dental probe is 100 mW and each time you press the activating button the laser will run for 24 seconds. That means that you have applied 2.4 joule (J). To make it simple, we will use the expression “P” (Press) for a single activation – 2.4 J. The following recommendations are approximate depending on several factors. The energy needed will vary from one case to the other. Is the condition chronic (lower dosage) or acute (higher dosage)? How deep into the tissue is the target located? How old is the patient? If you feel uncertain, you can use the recommendations below and be sure of being within a reasonable dosage range.

2-3 P, if possible treat for 2-3 consecutive days. Keep a slight distance.

2-3 P into the alveolus, in combination with conventional treatment.

Dislocated incisives
1 P over the apex, 1 P over the central part of the root, repeats if possible for 2-3 days.

Excavation of primary teeth
2 P before the excavation starts, reduces the need of anesthesia.

One P before starting the extraction. When finished, 1 P buccally, 1ingually and one over the alveolus (non-contact).

1 P for each interproximal space at the bone level after scaling and root planning.

Herpes simplex
1 P in the prodromal (initial) stage, 2 P if there is an established blister. Use non-Contact.

Rhinitis/hay fever
2 P at each nostril before dental treatment starts. Offers temporary breathing relief.

1 P at four points around the freshly installed implant, 1 P in non-contact mode over the suture.

1 P over the finished cavity before filling.

Crown and bridge
1 P over the vital pillar before seating the provisional crown, non-contact. Repeat before final seating.

Gagging reflex
1 P over the acupuncture point P6 on the wrist.

Dentinal hypersensitivity
In combination with conventional therapies: 1 P for young teeth, 2-3 P for more sclerotic teeth.

Mucositis caused by chemo- or radiation therapy: Optimally, start treatment as the cancer treatment starts and before any mucositis appears. 1 P per point on tongue and cheeks, 6-8 points. When the wounds have already appeared: 1 P in non-contact over each affected cm2.

1 P over parotis, sublingualis (intraorally) and submandibularis (extraorally). Causes rapid increase of salivary flow but to have a long lasting effect, the treatment has to be repeated weekly for 5-6 sessions.

Angular cheilitis
In combination with conventional treatment. 1 P per side in non-Contact.

2 P over each involved tooth, will reduce postoperative pain.

Paresthesia over n. alveolaris inferior
2 P per point along the projection of the nerve, minimum 5 points, minimum five sessions. Could at advantage be used directly after surgery when there is a risk of damage to the IAN.

Pericoronitis/dentitio dificilis
1 P from the buccal, lingual and occlusal side in combination with conventional therapy. Not to be used in severe cases unless antibiotics are used.

Tooth whitening
1 P per tooth to reduce postoperative sensitivity.

1 P over the articular area, if involved. 2-3 P per point on the insertions of the masticatory muscles, at least two points per insertion. Palpation tenderness should be subjectively reduced but must not necessarily be completely gone.

5 P over the palatinal projection of the sinus, 2 P buccally and 1 P over the nostril on the involved side. Results in temporary relief during dental treatment.

1 P over each cm2 of the oedematic area.

Over-instrumentation during endodontic work
2-3 P over the apex of the involved root.

Pulp capping
1 P over the exposed pulpal opening before capping.

Active Dental Laser can in addition be used for a large number of medical conditions that are not dentally related but may affect dental health. Some examples are finger arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, neck pain and burns. Remember that many conditions require repeated laser treatments.
